I believe I have but one major illness to recover from in this lifetime, and that belief may be killing me.
Perhaps a little dramatic you say? Let me explain.
This whole healthcare hoopla, with President Obama being called a liar by Big Joe Wilson as if he were speaking at a Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam instead of speaking to Congress and to the american people, is a validation of something I've known since I was 20 years old and began paying for my own health insurance. If I get really sick, and I mean like some illness that requires beaucoup bucks to heal, my insurance company is going to cancel my policy. Of course, now I know the action is called recision, but regardless what fancy words we use, it's still simply fuuuked uuuup from my point of view.
So cancelled policy, pre-existing condition, and a really bad attitude (again, from being screwed - and not willingly) all now come together to keep me from writing a policy with another carrier. Are you following my logic yet? Unless I want to bankrupt my family and put us into debt for the rest of my now shorter life, I've got "one major illness." That's it.
So why am I avoiding that colon exam? OK, there's the obvious reason, but my doctor is a little Vietnamese woman with the cutest little hands. Nope, I'm avoiding because I don't want to blow my proverbial insurance wad on some biopsy for some polyps that haven't bloomed yet anyway. Just the mention of the word cancer on Tiny Finger's chart and I'm convinced my coverage will go *poof* like so much leprechaun gold.
What about all that money I've been paying into the insurance system all these years you ask? *Poof* like so much leprechaun gold.
This (and a hand full of other less interesting to write about points) is why I believe insurance of all kinds should, as a moral and ethical dictum (footnote 1), be written by non-profit organizations or, less preferably, the government.
What's your take? Am I being a moron (very possible) or do I have a point here? Have you had an experience losing insurance, or have you had a great experience with your insurance?
Set me on the straight and narrow here America.
As always IMHO.
Sid.

I had to look it up...
