Do you know a six year old who wants to go to church? Me either.
So, in order to convince Girl Prince to join us without too many tragic, woe-is-me, "but I don't want to" Sunday mornings, we decided to try letting her do artwork during the sermons (this way, I figured, she'd absorb some of the discussion in any case). I would draw a scene and she would color it in with not completely silent crayons (you'd be amazed at how loud crayons can be in church...try it this Sunday. Seriously, amazed).
[A note about church. The first sermon we attended dealt with Atheism. They read from Penn Jillette's This I Believe essay, "There Is No God". I decided that any tradition secure enough within itself to allow for, and even welcome beliefs so paradoxical to my Bible-Belt upbringing was the tradition I want Boy Prince and Girl Prince to know about. And to be fair, I warned of digressions...]
So please, click on the thumbnails below and leave a comment or two to let Girl Prince know what you think of her Church Art. They are free to download if you're so inspired (for the grandmothers' fridge doors really). Just click on the picture in the individual pages and wait for the full sized image to appear.
From Girl Prince and me, Enjoy!
Sid.
